The nano-Spindt FED (Field Emission Display) is a kind of FED that reproduces images using an array of nanocone emitters to excite phosphors. Taking advantage of highly efficient self-emissive phosphors combined with a line-sequential impulse drive system, this display delivers the visual performance required of a next-generation flat panel display, including a wide viewing angle, lifelike color, outstanding contrast with true black reproduction, and no-blur display of quickly moving images.
The high-density emitter array of the nano-Spindt FED makes it structurally easy to design a thin panel with low power consumption. There is no need to use a backlight, nor is it necessary to generate high voltages to drive the cathode. The high-density emitter array also reduces the current load applied to individual emitters, making it possible to maintain high emissivity for long-term stable operation.
The main science company behind FED-Displays is Field Emission Technologies Inc. which was established in December 2006 in a collaborative effort by TCI (Technology Carve-Out Investment Limited Liability Partnership) and Sony Corporation. Our aim is to promote the nano-Spindt FED, the technology carved out for us, by carrying out research, marketing, strategic planning and other initial stages of business development.
