LG Display show new AH-IPS and Film Patterned Retarder FPR at SID-2011
OLED Display News
LG Display announces an extensive product lineup utilizing its cutting-edge technologies including AH-IPS, Film Patterned Retarder (FPR), and eco-friendly products at the SID(Society for Information Display)’s Display Week 2011 in Los Angeles from May 17 to 19.
Under the themes of FPR, Ultra High Resolution, and Green at its exhibition booth, visitors will experience state-of-the-art products that the company’s industry-leading technologies make possible.
“Our technical leadership has played a pivotal role in enhancing the level of experiences that people enjoy with their electronic devices,” said Yong-Kee Hwang, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of LG Display. “The lineup we are showcasing at this year’s event will continue to help LG Display shape the industry and lead people to new viewing experiences in both 3D and portable displays.”
FPR 3D Products
In the FPR 3D Zone, LG Display will present an extensive FPR 3D product lineup that is changing global TV market trends. FPR delivers full HD picture quality as well as creating a vivid, immersive 3D experience. FPR eliminates flicker and crosstalk, both major criticisms of competing 3D technologies, which leave viewers with eye fatigue. Through its lightweight, comfortable polarized glasses that emit no electromagnetic waves, FPR allows consumers to enjoy hours of comfortable 3D viewing. The inexpensive glasses even come in ‘clip-on’ style for the convenience of prescription glass wearers.
The zone will also feature advanced 3D technology such as the 4.3-inch glassless 3D panel with excellent viewing angles for smartphones launched earlier this year.
During last year’s SID, LG Display won the Gold Award at the Display of the Year Awards with its 47-inch Full HD FPR 3D panel, reaffirming the company’s world-leading 3D technology. The win was instrumental in encouraging major TV makers to adopt LG Display’s 3D panel.
Ultra High-Resolution Products
LG Display will showcase its technological prowess in ultra high resolution displays by debuting 55-inch Ultra Definition (UD, 3840x2160), the world’s highest resolution which is 4 times clearer than the full HD. They are also showcasing a display of 84-inch UD. AH-IPS technology, an advanced form of IPS that was applied in these products, improves color accuracy of the original image without distortion. This ultra high resolution is particularly valuable when displaying highly detailed images and is impressive for its wide viewing angles and fast Motion Picture Response Time (MPRT).
The company will also be demonstrating its unrivaled technology in smartphone panels, a field that is growing at the rapid pace, by exhibiting 4.5-inch HD smartphone panels with the world’s highest HD resolution (329ppi, 720x1280).
Green Products
LG Display will introduce eco-friendly displays featuring reductions in both power consumption and the number of components. Lighter and thinner displays will be showcased including an 18.5-inch monitor panel with the world’s thinnest bezel of 1mm, allowing for limitless scalability; a 13.3-inch panel with triple rate driving technology that has reduced the cost of production and contains less components; as well as a 47-inch Edge LED-backlit LCD that drastically reduces power consumption and the number of LED backlights.
At the event, Vice President and head of R&D, Mike (Myung-Chul) Jun will deliver a keynote on “LGD's Approach for Green Display” at the Green Displays Conference on May 18. Vice President Byeong-Koo Kim who heads mobile development at LG Display will speak on the subject of why “AH-IPS is the Best Solution for Smart Mobile Devices.”
In-Jae Chung, Chief Innovation Officer and Executive Vice President, will be honored with the SID Fellow Award for his contribution to the advancement of the LCD industry with development of copper wiring and IPS panels while Vice President Hyun-Chul Choi, who led the commercial use of 9.7-inch IPS panels, will receive a special contribution award.
