3DIcon Files Provisional Patent Application for High-Resolution “Emissive” Projection Screen
3DIcon Corporation , the developer of groundbreaking three-dimension projection and display technologies, today announced that it has filed a provisional patent application for a high-resolution projection screen that could replace current cinema and other existing reflective display screens.
“Many major opportunities exist in the two-dimension display world, including the ‘3D-on-2D’ market,” said Martin Keating, 3DIcon’s founder and CEO. “We believe we have designed a novel technique to create a commercially viable 2D screen that could overcome numerous shortcomings in the industry today and potentially give us a revenue stream equal to, at least initially, that which we expect from our efforts on behalf of our flagship 3D CSpace® program.”
Dr. Hakki Refai, 3DIcon’s chief technology officer and inventor of the 2D display screen, added, “This new technology will include a flexible flat-panel display driven by any front projection system including those currently used in cinemas and conference rooms. It will incorporate organic light-emitting diode (OLED) emitters and a plurality of pixels to produce high-image-reproduction quality, brightness under ambient light with high contrast, and exceptional color fidelity. Both the 2D and the ‘3D-on-2D’ markets need a high-luminance projection screen. Our technology will meet these needs by emitting rather than reflecting images and movies.”
Keating concluded, “We will continue our aggressive pursuit of intellectual property related to 3D technology, while taking advantage of 2D and ‘3D-on-2D’ opportunities along the way.”
